The 2024-2025 Ski Season Has Arrived in Ironwood

The 2024-2025 ski season has officially begun in Ironwood! With white powder snow, family-friendly resorts, and stunning scenery, our community is the perfect destination for skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels.

Ironwood is home to some of the Midwest’s best skiing destinations. Whether you’re a seasoned skier or just starting, there’s a hill here for you:

Mt.Zion Ski Hill: Operated by Gogebic Community College’s Ski Area Management Program, Mt. Zion is a favorite for locals and visitors alike. Known for its affordable rates and family-friendly atmosphere, this hill offers something for everyone, including a tubing park and indoor ice skating rink for non-skiers.

Big Powderhorn Mountain Resort: With 17 groomed trails and terrain suitable for all abilities, Big Powderhorn is perfect for those looking to spend a full day on the slopes. 

Snowriver Mountain Resort: Snowriver combines two hills in one resort, offering a wide variety of trails, scenic views, and plenty of opportunities for adventure.

Whitecap Mountains Resort: Boasting 43 runs across three peaks, Whitecap Mountain offers diverse terrain for skiers and snowboarders of all levels.

 

Where to Rent Gear

Ironwood has several rental shops to get you outfitted for the slopes:

  • Mt. Zion, Big Powderhorn Mountain, Snowriver, and Whitecap: These ski resorts/ hills have their own rental shop located on sight at their mountain. They offer skis, snowboards, boots, helmets, and poles for all ages.
  • Hobby Wheel: Located in downtown Ironwood, Hobby Wheel provides rental equipment and outdoor gear, making it a great option for visitors staying in town.

Before starting your snowy adventure, make sure you’re ready for a safe and enjoyable experience. Here are some tips to make sure you have a enjoyable day on the hills.

  • Dress in Layers: Start with moisture wicking base layers, add insulation, and finish with a waterproof outer layer.
