That Small Town Charm, but Make it All Things Holiday!
This holiday season, it’s time to immerse yourself in all of the warm and cozy feelings of Yuletide joy. The Northern Elves Festival in Ironwood, Michigan is a truly magical event that epitomizes the essence of holiday cheer and festive atmosphere. This annual festival takes place to kick off winter, transforming the town into a winter wonderland filled with joy and merriment. The festival features multiple events for all ages including a Santa Dash, where people dress up as Santa’s and make a mad dash through downtown. The Santa’s are a warm welcome to kick-off a grand parade celebrating Jack Frost, where colorful floats adorned with sparkling lights make their way through the streets. People line the sidewalks, bundled up in their warmest coats and scarves, cheering and waving to the participants as they pass by.
As the parade reaches its end, the downtown of Ironwood comes alive with a flurry of activity. The many small shops and local Brewery are transformed into a bustling marketplace, with vendors selling a wide variety of handmade crafts, holiday decorations, and delicious festive treats. Local artisans proudly display their creations, showcasing the unique talents of the region. The air is filled with the enticing aromas of freshly baked cookies & cinnamon-spiced wassail, instantly lifting everyone’s spirits and spreading holiday cheer.
In the center of the historic Depot park stands a magnificent Christmas tree, adorned with twinkling lights. Families gather around, eagerly awaiting the lighting ceremony. As the switch is flipped, the tree illuminates the night sky in a dazzling display of colors, evoking a sense of awe and wonder in all who behold it. Carols fill the air, sung by a local choir, while children’s laughter echoes throughout the square.
Throughout the festival, various activities and performances take place, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy. Children can visit Santa, where they can share their wish lists and have their photos taken with Santa Claus himself. Children can then visit Elf Crafts where they will be busy making ornaments and holiday keepsakes with Santa’s elves. There are also live performances by local artists, showcasing traditional holiday songs and dances. The sound of jingle bells can be heard as the doors of downtown open and close for the Wassail walk, a multiple day event for tasting the different varieties of this mulled cider beverage to cast a vote for the best Wassail in town, adding to the enchanting atmosphere of the festival.
