Snowriver Mountain Resort’s New High Speed Lift
Over the past 2 years, Snowriver Mountain Resort in Wakefield and Bessemer, MI (4 miles outside of Ironwood) have seen a massive amount of attention.
New Owner
3 years ago, Big Snow Resort (Indianhead and Blackjack) was purchased by the Midwest’s premier ski resort mogul Charles Skinner. Skinner, who owns both Lutsen (Minnesota) and Granite Peak (Wisconsin), is now the owner of the newly rebranded Snowriver Mountain Resort (Jackson Creek Summit & Black River Basin) in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. With such an impressive portfolio, Big Snow Resort is placed among ski resort giants.
New Investment
Snowriver Mountain Resort has been a part of the Western Upper peninsula for over 50 years. From the 70’s and 80’s onward, the area resorts haven’t seen significant investment. Lack of investment is now gone with the welcome upgrades across the two resort mountains.
New to 2023/2024 is the highly anticipated Voyageur Express 6-person high speed chair lift. This is the first high speed chair lift in the entire Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Among the new chair lift the main lodges and dining facilities have been completely renovated along with many other miscellaneous upgrades. Located in such pristine wilderness, and along Lake Superiors snow belt, these two mountains are set to be the most highly anticipated ski resort destination’s in the entire Midwest.
As a member of Midwest Family Ski Resorts, which includes Granite Peak Ski Area in Wisconsin and Lutsen Mountains in Minnesota, Snowriver is included on the Legendary Pass to grant access to all three resorts.
