The Sylvania Wilderness and Sylvania Recreation Area, is located near Watersmeet, Michigan and is part of the National Wilderness Preservation System. Combined with the adjacent Recreation Area, this 18,327 acre wilderness offers an outstanding experience for those who want to camp, fish, hike, canoe, ski, or enjoy the solitude of a wilderness experience. Black River Harbor Recreation Area

Known for its spectacular waterfalls, idyllic beaches, scenic hiking trails and tranquil campground, the Black River Harbor Recreation Area is a popular destination throughout the year. Originating in Wisconsin, the Black River flows through forested areas of large pine, hemlock and hardwood trees. The River has a series of scenic waterfalls as it drops in elevation to meet Lake Superior. Tannin (tanic acids)from hemlock trees is what gives it its unique color. (more…)

Presque Isle State Park & River

This hike combines the East and West River Trails for a scenic hike along the Presque Isle River, which runs through the Porcupine Mountains State Park. The river has strong currents and sections of rapids, as well as three main waterfalls, Nawadaha Falls, Manido Falls, and Manabezho Falls, which measures 25 feet high. (more…)

The Cisco Chain of Lakes

The Cisco Chain of Lakes in Michigan’s Western Upper Peninsula has 15 interconnected lakes in the chain directly adjacent to the Sylvania Wilderness. Public access is available on both Cisco and Thousand Island Lake. The Cisco Chain is accessible by small motorboats, canoes, kayak, or other small boat craft. The lakes are known for fish species such as: Trout, musky, walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, and panfish.  Stay in Ironwood and take a brief 45 minute drive to your destination. McDonald Lake

Located on McDonald Dam Road in Ironwood, Michigan and unique from the other two campgrounds operated by the Forestry and Parks Commission, as it is a rustic campground. There is no fee at this campground and the campsites are designed for tenting only on a first come first serve basis. There is a total of six designated sites. The three sites on the lake shore have tenting pads and fire rings, the island sites do not. (more…)

Henry Lake

Henry Lake Campground

Located in Gogebic County 9 miles southwest of the town of Marenisco, Mi., on the Bessemer Ranger District in the southern half of the Ottawa National Forest. Henry Lake Campground is a single loop campground with 11 campsites that are spaced with natural vegetation for screening. Henry Lake Campground provides drive-in sites that can accommodate tents, trailers, and motor homes. Each site offers an accessible wood table, fire ring and parking spur. Two single vault toilets are located near the fee station, while water is provided in the camping loop.
