It’s been a big snow season in Ironwood this winter! So far Ironwood has seen an approximate total of 129” from October 1, 2025 through the end of February 2026. Ironwood is in close proximity to Lake Superior and as a result we get a large amount of lake effect snow. The community and surrounding businesses are well prepared to handle anything winter throws at them and the local area is truly a dream for any winter sports enthusiasts. While the snowfall this year certainly isn’t record breaking, the high snowfall totals have provided excellent conditions for winter adventurers. And we still have plenty of winter left! While the spring equinox comes March 1st, it is very common for snow to continue falling into April. According to the National Weather Service, the Ironwood area averages around 148 inches of snow per season. While that sounds like a lot, the highest annual snowfall happened during the 1996-1997 season with an astounding 298.1 inches!
