SISU SKI FEST 2026

January 10th, 2026 welcomes the SISU Ski Fest ski races back to Ironwood! SISU is a Finnish word that can roughly be translated to mean grit, determination, tenacity and resilience. If you have spent part of the winter in the Upper Peninsula, you know that its communities have a strong sense and spirit of SISU. 

The SISU Ski fest offers a range of different races appropriate for all skill levels as well as community and local involvement making this truly a celebration of skiing, winter and community.

SISU Ski Fest Races:

  • 30K – SISU Classic: Point-to-point 30K classic ski race from ABR Trails to downtown Ironwood. (For the seasoned skier seeking to test their endurance and skill against the stunning Upper Peninsula landscape.)
  • 30K SISU – Skate: Point-to-point 30K skate ski race from ABR Trails to downtown Ironwood. (For the seasoned skier seeking to test their endurance and skill against the stunning Upper Peninsula landscape.)
  • 15K Heikki Lunta – Classic: Point-to-point 15K classic ski race from ABR Trails to downtown Ironwood. (A challenging yet rewarding option for those looking for a significant but less grueling race.)
  • 15K Heikki Lunta – Skate: Point-to-point 15K skate ski race from ABR Trails to downtown Ironwood. (A challenging yet rewarding option for those looking for a significant but less grueling race.)
  • 5K Hauska Hiihto Fun Ski: Noncompetitive point-to-point 5K classic and skate ski through the Miners Memorial Heritage Park to downtown Ironwood, on the last 5K of the SISU race course. (Perfect for families, casual skiers, or anyone who wants to enjoy the trails at a leisurely pace.)
  • Youth Event: The Depot Dash: Our youngest skiers will have their own dedicated event to experience the joy of competition and winter fun on Friday night, downtown at The Depot.

2026 Highlights:

  • 30K SISU & 15K Heikki Lunta ski races.
  • Five year age groups, more prizes, and cloth bibs!
  • Capacity is 940 registered.
  • Larger indoor warming area near the Start Line.
  • “Finnish” Line in Ironwood’s Downtown City Square.
